The Redlam panic bolt is a method of locking a fire door to prevent it from unauthorised use. It works by a spring loaded bolt which is held in place by a breakable ceramic or glass tube. In the event of a fire, the tube can be easily smashed by the small hammer and this allows the bolt to spring out of the door.
